Municipal Risk Atlas in Quintana Roo: An essential step toward sustainability and safety
Heard of a mangrove that “disappeared” one night and before any claim have effects there is construction on top of it? In DMAS we found that our best ally to protect mangroves, wetlands, underground rivers and sinkholes in Quintana Roo are the Municipal Risk Atlases, and while the elaboration and information spread of these atlases are municipal obligations by law as per to the civil protection law and the climate change law, they are not even mentioned in the human settlements law of the State.
A federal judge agreed when we sued the Quintana Roo Congress for this, and we are working together with citizens all over Quintana Roo to have this change reflected in the laws and prevent any new municipal urban development program that doesn’t consider the information these Atlases provide approved, this is the #LeyTajamar.
