FOR URBAN MOBILITY
Traffic and accidents are a day-to-day issue in both Cancún and Playa del Carmen. But while federal laws force Quintana Roo to prioritize public transportation and pedestrians, this is not happening in real life. Those with limited mobility as children, elders and handicapped know that it’s a high risk sport to move around these cities.
Planning a city means planning how we move around it. Not one municipality in Quintana Roo has a mobility plan backing up its urban development program. But thanks to the chaotic Cancún, we won a case and Congress must amend this in the human settlement State Law of Quintana Roo. We have been working along with experts on a proposal, because we are not going to wait for them to do it and we need all the community involved. This is the #LeyMovilidadSustentable.
